Babcock delivers multi-platform video on demand (VoD) service for Eurostar

May 2016

Eurostar passengers on the recently launched fleet of state-of-the-art e320 trains can now enjoy access to a wide range of films and television shows streamed direct to travellers' own mobile devices - tablets, laptops and phones.

The service, provided by GoMedia, utilises Babcock's multi-platform television distribution offering to add subtitles, encode and encrypt the content, and then distribute it directly into Eurostar trains.

We chose to work with Babcock because we knew that their expertise in delivering video content to multiple platforms was exactly what this project needed.

Simon Dore, COO, GoMedia

Simon Dore, COO, GoMedia, said "We believe this exciting, cutting-edge on-board entertainment system will become an industry standard for passengers. With hundreds of hours of content that must work perfectly first time in multiple languages and on different devices, we invested in the very best technology platform available. We chose to work with Babcock because we knew that their expertise in delivering video content to multiple platforms was exactly what this project needed."

Leah Holding, Director, Media Services, Babcock, said "In the digital age there is a growing expectation to enjoy Video on Demand wherever and whenever you want, especially on long journeys. The service provided by GoMedia is industry changing by providing high quality content directly on the passenger's own device. I am thrilled to see forward thinking companies like Eurostar utilising our robust technology to deliver the 'always-on' levels of service their customers demand."
